want to write about resident evil.... do not know how to yet..... upon rewatch i will probably have more words to discuss this movie but really enjoyed it. it dealt with body horror in a cool interesting way and zombies and specifically the concept of fear which I think is a really interesting concept to unpack.
because it was less about the things that scare us and more about how what scares us effects us. it leans into fear, the fear of a video game, or parenthood, or zombies, or heights, or guns, and it shows us that things are harder when we are afraid. i do not know if that is necessarily a message, but it is something that i can further develop i think.
also discusses change[1] in a way that is not dissimilar than that of the substance... but it leans further into it where at the end, truly, the main character leans into what he has changed into, and i do not think that is necessarily a bad thing. we look at body horror and zombies specifically as invasions on our identity and functions, but in a way, when talking about "evolutionarily superior" the zombies are, technically, superior, and can live after they die. there is a lot to be said about monsters and identity, and that is something i also want to elaborate on but! i am so exhausted.
