The Wizard of Oz (1939)
this is a mess of a page lmao look here for my letterboxd review
Yesterday my partner asked me why I was watching The Wizard of Oz as a horror movie for 31 for 31. I told her the story I tell everyone, about how when I was a small child in elementary school the witch scared me. It got so bad, that when my elementary school music teacher dedicated a unit to watching the movie, I would strategically plan to be sick so that I would miss the movie entirely.
There are two paths to go from this conversation: one about my avoidance and one about horror overall. One of those paths is very personal, and the other is more academic, but both are applicable here. The key here perhaps is a tie between horror and avoidance.
