Reflections / Takeaways -
I do not necessarily discuss this in my reflection of 1. Teeth which is the first issue of midnight universe (see related links), but of the three number ones of this universe, I enjoyed the X-Men one the most.
This issue of Spider-Man is my second favorite, although it is way less enjoyable then the X-Men. This may be because I value the x-men over spider-man, but also because this one was super duper wordy. This is intentional, because it contains a lot of exposition that is needed for the story to be understandable but boy oh boy is it draining. Some quick notes for brevity.
- 18 year old peter parker is really good
- very tech bro but probably a commentary on being a tech bro and millionaires in tech and capitalism impacting invention
- I thought it was really strange how quickly Parker's perspective and morals changed- I think it is very interesting to see the portrayal of a teenage boy who is wowed by shiny things
- Carl Sagan fan is funny
- that last page is so good
- boob pov shot was crazy work that should not have happened-- goes back to the parker's perspective. parker can be distracted, he can be changed, he can be manipulated because he is so young, but also i think it might take more than money and a secret side quest to truly sway a teenage boy, especially one who has written a blog enough of commentary indicating the opposite.
- That last page was killer
- I think overall it is a cool retelling of the classic spider-man story, and for that, heck yea
