Reflections / Takeaways - I want to go through the specific themes that I sense in this story, although the plot is fantastic and I loved every single part of it. With these themes I want to provide space for notes, although I read this without taking notes and will do better next time.
religion
offers discussion on the "old ways" compared to the "new ways"-- Kurt cannot speak Latin, and he has moved quickly through the ranks as a priest. I do not think this is a reflection of religious condemnation (not unlike the Glee episode where they discuss religion which was... cringe)

Intersectionality
the conception of being both mutant and a vampire and that specifically making someone a monster. The term "Empyre" being a terminology that is not used by the mutants but the non-mutants.

As well as the basic vampire + mutant combo, we see our main vampire being Ororo, or Storm, a BIPOC woman. She already experiences the dynamics of intersectionality that come with existing, but her extra layers, I am sure, add to this conversation. Also, black vampires are worth discussion as they were in Mary Shelley's Frankenhole.

Monster
This one is pretty on the nose-- but should be further discussed in how a vampire is a monster.
