Stephen King Movies

this section is dedicated to my thoughts on Stephen King's works as turned into movies. I do not foresee myself ever reading and Stephen King nor do I see myself taking any of this rather seriously, so as a result I intend to keep this all in the same place. If I feel behooved to change my perspective at sone point I will but. idc

Christine (1983)

It is hard to see why this movie is relevant to the specific time period in which i came out, simply because I lack the cultural context of the movie. Was this movie made because Stephen King was popular? or because the story resonates with people? Is this a story specifically about cars? It does not seem to be resonating with the horror that traditionally pertains to cars i.e. crashing them (need to watch crash, it is not a desire but a requirement.)

Maybe it is my personal disconnect from it and my lack of boyhood- I understand and get Carrie, if not because at some point I experienced the lens of teenage girlhood, even if this was not true to my identity. Is this for someone who experiences interests in cars, or perhaps boyhood? Is that what being a teenage boy is about? To a straight white man in the 70s?

I would be remiss if I did not mention the red symbolism being used in this movie, which I imagine is King's doing. I fear he is not doing anything particularly cool or inventive with this, rather he is using the red to foreshadow death. Not unlike how we know arnie is a bad boy now because he has started popping his collar. "do they still make this shade of red anymore?"
